Programmed sequence of five 35mm slides,
no sound, 10 minutes, continuous projection
The back-projection Current, though showing no moving pictures, evokes a flowing continuity due to the fade-overs of five 35mm slides. We see a flat body of water, the Limmat in Zurich, and discover a bicycle that has come to a standstill at the bottom of the river. The slowly overlapping images make the bicycle seem to shift position slightly since each image becomes a reverberating echo on the next until it finally fades out. The light intensity varies from slide to slide, creating a play of light and shade, current and stagnation, reality and illusion.
